- To set the scene you need to determine the character’s perspective, the when and where, and the intention of the scene.

- The character’s perspective:

Name the character.

Try to use the five senses to describe the location and the character’s feelings.

Establish a tone or energy for the scene.

- The when and where:

When: What is the time of day, date, or season?

Where: What is the location?

Avoid descriptions of strict layouts and measurements of the size, shape, and contents of a space.

Instead, describe the color, texture, and materials of the space to dictate tone and create an emotional response.
